Bitstamp appoints JB Graftieaux as CEO
Sawyer, who had held the position for 18 months, “decided to pursue other opportunities,” Bitstamp said Monday. Graftieaux, who will take over as CEO, was CCO of Bitstamp from November 2014 to February 2016. He also worked at PayPal from 2009 to 2014 and eBay from 2016 to 2021.
“As the oldest and most trusted crypto exchange in the world serving millions of users, our strategic vision is to help build the financial ecosystem of tomorrow,” Graftieaux said.
Graftieaux joined Bitstamp as CEO Europe about a year ago. The crypto exchange credits him with securing regulatory licenses for its EU-based operations and driving the company’s expansion into Europe over the past year.
What is Bitstamp?
Bitstamp is a Luxembourg-based cryptocurrency exchange. which was established in 2011. It has a strong presence in Europe, but is relatively small globally, controlling only around 2% of the crypto-to-fiat spot trading market, compared to the leader’s 27% from the Coinbase market. The crypto exchange was acquired by private equity firm NXMH in 2018.
Last month, Bitstamp announced plans to expand into the United States by expanding its “Bitstamp-as-a-Service” offering to national banks and fintech companies, enabling them to provide digital asset services to their clients.
